Gundla Brahmeswaram Wildlife Sanctuary

Gundla Brahmeswaram Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of around 30 km from Nandyal and 100 km from Kurnool district of Indian state Andhra Pradesh. The place has an abundance of flora and fauna and the picturesque sanctuary has a great tale to narrate.

Gundla Wildlife Sanctuary in Nandyal

Spread across an area of over 1194 km sq and covered by mixed deciduous forests, Gundla Brahmeswaram Sanctuary which is situated on Gundla Brahmeshwaram plateau which runs from south to north of the Nallamala Hills is the last surviving tract of pristine forests of Nallamala Hills. Gundlakamma river flows through the sanctuary on its eastern side and is the life line of the place providing a varied habitat for flora and fauna around here.

Climate


The climate of the Gundla Brahmeswara Wildlife Sanctuary is quiet hot round the year with most of the precipitation occurring during the monsoon months. Winters in the Gundla Brahmeswara Wildlife Sanctuary are usually mild and pleasant reaching up to a minimum temperature of 18o C, while summers are quiet hot as the maximum temperatures hovers around 40o C to 45o C. The best time to visit this place is from October to May. Accommodation is available for tourists at the inspection bungalow at Nandyal and at Forest Rest House at Diguvametta.

Flora and Fauna


Gundla Brahmeswaram Wildlife Sanctuary in NandyalRenowned as one of the most picturesque forest areas in India, the sanctuary have mixed deciduous forest of Terminalia, Albizzia, Teak, Pterocarpuss, Anogeissius, Andug, Bamboo Dalbergia, Boswellia and Shisham at ease here. Most of the plants of the sanctuary have immense ethno-botanical value.

Gundla Brahmeswaram Wildlife Sanctuary  is a home to large number of faunal population and some of the animal exist in the region are Wild Dog, Bonnet Monkey, Jungle Cat, Hyena, Tiger, Panther, Sloth Bear, Langur,  Pangolin, Chinkara,  Nilgai, Chowsingha, Mouse Deer, Python, Sambar, Crocodile and Monitor Lizard. Some of these animals are considered as endangered animals. The main attractions of the Wildlife Sanctuary include Tufted Gray Langur and Mouse deer. Animal lovers should be enthusiastic to have a close encounters with them.
