Spread across an area of 614 sq kilometers, the sanctuary was formed in 1988. This sanctuary is located at a distance of about 60 kilometers from the Kurnool area near Nandikotkuru in Andhra Pradesh. Topography of the sanctuary is gentle undulating plains with an elevation of 290m and vegetation is of Southern Tropical Thorn Forest type.

Climate of the sanctuary is usually quiet hot and dry for almost more than eight months with an average annual temperature of about28?C. Winters in the Rollapadu Bird Sanctuary are usually mild and pleasant with a minimum temperature of 180 C, while summers are quiet hot as the maximum temperatures in summer soars in the range of 40–45 ?C. Average rainfall of the area is 450mm and usually it varies. The best time to visit this place is from October to February. Rollapadu wild life sanctuary has a vast variety of flora and fauna. The landscape at the sanctuary is covered with open grasslands, mixed forests and thorny bushes which provide the ideal habitat for the animals and birds. Various trees species like Ficus Tiela, Sepiata, Manilkara, Strychnos, Uberifolium and Hexandra are found in this area.The Rollapadu Bird Sanctuary is the home to a number of birds, reptiles and wild animals. Some of the animals exist in the region include Sparrows, Indian Bustard, Indian Roller, Indian Fox, Black Buck, Bonnet Macaque, Russell’s Viper, Indian Cobra, jackal, Wolf and Mynas.
