Sangha Mitra Awasam in Nandyal

Most of us are not born with a silver spoon in our mouth, but still we are lucky enough to born in a family where people are always available to take care of us since our birth. There are children in our society who does not have anybody to take care of them, some of them lost their families after birth and some of them are orphan since their birth. As the saying goes “god take care of them who has no one to take care”, well God take care of them in different avatars and in case of Nandyal Sanghamitra Awasam is the God referred here.



Sanghamitra Awasam plays a role of affection home to destitute, abandoned and orphaned children. The orphanage is run by a registered voluntary organization known as Sanghamitra Seva Samithi. Its main motto is to provide care, warmth and affection to the little children. They offer a chance for these children to become an educated and civilized citizen.

Origin of Sanghamitra Awasam

The orphanage was founded in 1994, on the occasion of Vivekanand Jayanti, by a registered voluntary organization Sanghamitra Seva samithi. It was started in a rented house with only 2 children at the moment. Within a short timespan of 10 years its number of children increased from 2 to 24 and is still increasing day by day.

Facilities Provided by Sanghamitra Awasam

Accommodation
They provide accommodation to the boys identified as orphans and nobody to take care of. These children are selected by the volunteers of Sevabharathi irrespective of their caste / creed and are in the age group 3-7 years.

Education

They offer education facility to all of these children till they become self-reliant. Many students have passed out of 10th board exams under the guidance of Sanghamitra Awasam and some of them are pursuing their higher qualifications such as post graduation, graduation and diplomas. One of the children even scored a district first in the essay writing competition and some scored a zonal medal in karate championship.

Other activities

Apart from providing shelter and education to these orphan children, SANGHAMITRA also has taken up activities to the slums around the Muncipal office of Nandyal.  They are running a Non-formal alternative education school for 90 children for the past 3 years. They are also trying to help the women of Nandyal with the help of the rotary club of the city by taking up the cause of the Women in the slums.  They have been successful in training around 100 women in stitching, thread work, fabric painting and fabric designing. They have also distributed 30 sewing machines among these women with the help of rotary club.
